Over the years, we have seen amazing Lead4Change projects focused on water issues. Students have raised awareness about clean water, created programs to educate their peers about the need for clean water supplies and raised funds to improve water resources locally and globally.
For instance, the students at Port Chester Middle School raised enough to build a well in South Sudan – and then used their Lead4Change Challenge winning a grant to build a second well. They are still able to go into Google Earth and see the wells, each with a plaque noting the work of the Port Chester students! This project allowed them to make a real difference in the world after they read “A Long Walk to Water.” What an experience to turn a book study into real action! Powerful experiential learning they won’t forget.
Recently we met the team at H2O for Life. This organization can assist your school’s team with any water-related projects for the Lead4Change Challenge.
Danielle Kruger, School Outreach Coordinator, explains the work of H2O for Life this way:
H2O For Life provides a one to one partnership for a classroom/school with a school around the world that lacks access to clean water. Each school working with H2O completes a local and global service experience that raises awareness about the Global Water Crisis and funds a water project at their specific partner school. What makes this partnership unique is that students have the opportunity to see the global impact they are having via our digital platform; as the project is built students receive updates and photos to see how that project impacts their chosen community. This partnership allows local students to make an attainable local and global difference.
If your students have chosen water as a focus for their Lead4Change project, consider a Skype call with H2O for life to find out if they can assist your students. Contact Danielle at danielle@h2oforlifeschools.org or check out their website at https://www.h2oforlifeschools.org
From time to time this year we will feature organizations willing to team with student teams on their Lead4Change Challenge project. If you have an idea for a future blog, contact us.
