In the Lead4Change lessons, one of the most important concepts for successful leaders is to set a BIG goal. This is taught in the 12-track, Lesson 4 and the 6-Track, Lesson 3. At this point in the lessons, students have selected the issue they’d like to focus on for their work.
The BIG goal process involves individual and team reflection on what impact or positive change they want to see in their project. What is the single biggest thing they can do to make an impact?
And then, they think BIG – how can they set a goal that may seem impossible, but will stretch their leadership and teamwork skills? Is the goal something that will take them out of their comfort zone and encourage real effort and skill development?
Great leaders will say that a BIG goal is necessary so that we can take ourselves further than we imagine right now. Even if the goal is not reached, it is likely that we’ve accomplished far more than we expected at the beginning of the project.
Whether it is a class or school project, a club project or a group of students who are working to improve their leadership skills – how can you, the educator or club adviser, introduce the concept of a BIG Goal?
We can’t wait to see what your students will do!!
