More than 20% of US school districts require some amount of community service or volunteer hours for graduation. Maryland is the state with the longest focus on all students completing service work in the K12 years. New Jersey has the newest focus on a Civic Engagement graduation requirement.
Districts as large as Chicago and DC or as small as Jefferson Parish, LA and Corpus Christi, TX have each found a meaningful way to give students experience working in the community and making their area better.
Lead4Change is the perfect framework for a successful community service project. Available to 6-12th grades in the US, students will learn, create and activate their service work.
Last week we completed Round 1 of the Lead4Change Challenge. Reading the amazing stories of how students find the need and jump in with a project is truly inspiring. Projects focus on a wide range of needs including immigrant support, mental health improvement, animal care, senior care, food insecurity and more.
