NEWARK, Del.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Lead2Feed welcomes teachers and students back to school as the Lead2Feed Student Leadership Program kicks off its sixth year. The program offers students the opportunity to lead, create and implement team projects that support community needs. This year, thousands of middle and high school students from over 5,000 schools and clubs across all 50 states will participate. The program is inspired by Co-Founder, former CEO and Chairman of Yum! Brands, and leadership expert, David Novak, and developed by the Foundation for Impact on Literacy and Learning and the Lift a Life Foundation.
A recent Lead2Feed survey found that Americans view leadership skills as a vital aspect of students’ education with 91 percent saying that middle and high school students should learn leadership skills as part of their curriculum. Lead2Feed’s free program helps fill a gap in middle and high school education by providing innovative leadership lessons to students. Skills that are taught as part of the Lead2Feed program help students think beyond the classroom to serve their communities. Since the program’s inception in 2012, more than one million students have demonstrated their leadership skills by creating projects and volunteering time and resources to address community and global needs.
“Lead2Feed inspires and teaches middle and high school students the process of leadership and how to support their community. Year after year, we see Lead2Feed students around the country create and execute projects that put their leadership learnings to use and serve their communities,” said David Novak. “Through the Lead2Feed program, we are creating compassionate leaders for tomorrow.”
The Lead2Feed lessons, which are compatible with 21st Century Skills and the Common Core, will now include new alignment documents to satisfy Literacy Standards and Project Based Learning Standards. This year, Lead2Feed will also offer new digital student lessons that teachers can import into their school’s e-portal for use in a digital environment.
Teachers and advisors can register their student teams for the Lead2Feed Student Leadership Program and enter the Lead2Feed Challenge online at www.lead2feed.org. By working through the Lead2Feed lessons, students will select a community needs project, partner with a non-profit 501c3 and compete for a chance to win up to $10,000 in charity grants and technology for their school or club.
“There is a dual benefit to empowering young minds through leadership while simultaneously helping local communities,” said Diane Barrett, Executive Director of the Foundation for Impact on Literacy and Learning, Inc. “The Lead2Feed program aligns seamlessly with the current academic curriculum and helps shape our future leaders.”
