Students across the country are stepping up to solve real challenges in their communities. At Bigfork High School, a team of students saw a need and took action—demonstrating the power of leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork. Their project, Bigfork Leadership, is a testament to what’s possible when young leaders take charge.
The Need
Three soccer-loving students learned that many families in their local soccer club struggled to afford basic equipment—starting with cleats. With growing feet and high costs, players often outgrow cleats before they wear out, leaving many without proper footwear for the season. Motivated to help, the team set a goal to collect 30 pairs of gently used soccer cleats in time for distribution at the first practice of the season.
The Project
The students created flyers and posted them throughout their elementary and middle schools, placing donation bins in key locations to collect cleats. They also used social media to spread the word, sharing donation details and promoting the upcoming cleat pick-up event. Once the drive ended, they sorted the donated cleats by size to make the shopping experience smooth and accessible for families.
The Result
The team met their goal, collecting over 30 pairs of cleats, with 20 pairs claimed during the first spring practice. The remaining cleats will be kept on hand by the club for families in need later in the season. The Bigfork Soccer Club community—including parents and leadership—responded with appreciation and positive feedback for the effort.
Lead4Change fulfilled a $2,700 grant request from the students on behalf of the Bigfork Soccer Club. The funds will be used to purchase additional equipment that supports the local soccer community, including drawstring bags, training cones, goals, and more.
