Norton High School Students Take Action to Solve Real Problems in Their Community

At Norton High School, something powerful is happening inside Mr. Portway’s Honors Leadership class.

Students aren’t just learning about leadership.
They’re practicing it—every day, in real and tangible ways.

Through Lead4Change, students worked in teams to identify real needs in their school and community—and build action plans to address them.

What followed was a ripple effect of student-led impact that reached far beyond the classroom.

One Class. Many Ways to Lead.

The Lead4Change Core Curriculum is designed to help students develop essential life skills—and apply them through powerful, real-world service projects.

Sometimes classrooms work together to address one big need. Other times, students divide and conquer to tackle a range of issues that they care about. Which is exactly what the students at Norton High School did.

🧣One group gathered coats, gloves, and winter supplies so younger students could fully participate in recess alongside their peers.

❤️Another tackled the issue of loneliness in middle school—creating a “No One Eats Alone” campaign that encouraged students to look out for one another.

Other teams hosted conversations about bullying ❌, created campaigns that encouraged everyday kindness ✌️, and developed resources to educate their peers on safe energy usage ♻️.

Each effort looked different.

But together, they tell a powerful story: every student has the potential to be a great leader who makes a difference in their community.

Bringing Leadership to Life

But the thing is, these students didn’t just have great ideas—they had the structure and support to bring them to life.

That’s exactly what Lead4Change is designed to do.

Over the course of 7 flexible modules, students:

  • Grow in confidence, self-awareness, and communication
  • Work together to solve real problems in their school or community
  • Learn how to set goals and lead with purpose
  • Launch a service project that creates meaningful change
